The hotel was fantastic, staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean, you are provided with towels and a hair dryer, the toilets are communal but are still very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would return back here. The centre was a 15 minute walk to the centre which is not too far. There is a tram stop near the hotel.

Brilliant hotel

Faced with a problem with eight drunken men staying at this hotel, the in-house staff got angry and didn't help us. They insisted that if they didn't touch us or steal from us, nothing would happen... All this by giving us voices and making fun of us when we spoke in Spanish. We had to find another hotel at night, an hour's walk around Amsterdam and they didn't return the money... moreover, they demanded that we return the keys when we had paid for two more days... Not recommended at all...

 Nefasta experience 

To escape, it is not a hotel but a very high-priced youth hostel, 150€ for a 2m wide hallway-like room (room B), toilet on the floor, very steep staircase, no one very friendly, very poorly sounded.

A bad experience

Good location, hotel with few amenities, staff available. Breakfast is not feasible, there's a coffee machine and a snack distributor, a horror. Room with shower, a docking room attached to the wall that doesn't allow you to wash properly, bathroom, toilet, to share with others, imagine what well-being.

Travel from Italy

It's well located a 20-minute walk from the train station, a warm and friendly private room, the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but it was enough for one night, the soundproofing and the bathroom were a bit of a nuisance, but you already know that when you book.

It's not bad for its price.

Very well located in a quiet area of Amsterdam, the staff is super friendly and always available.The room is comfortable, all facilities are clean.It has a nice shared living room, where you can buy coffee, tea and other refreshments.

Good experience!

In line with another review on here, for some reason I wasn't expecting much from this hotel but it far exceeded expectations. We'd picked it pretty much on price alone, figuring it was just somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights. On the map for some reason it looked a little far from the centre. But in practice it was easily walkable, and we loved the neighbourhood. The staff were super friendly and everything was great. Starting with arriving early to find our room was ready anyway. And ending with being able to leave our bags after check-out while we visited the zoo around the corner. It really was a great stay. There are many good places for breakfast within easy walking. Yes the stairs are steep and it's a shared toilet but neither of these things were a problem for us, especially given the price in an expensive city. Fab!

Super location, exceeded expectations

I stayed here for 3 nights in June with a friend. The room although basic was perfect for our needs. The location is fairly quiet and only a 10-15 min walk to the main tourist areas. The staff were very friendly and helpfully arranged a taxi for our early departure to the airport. Definitely a place to consider for a no frills base while exploring Amsterdam

Simple, clean and value for money

This is our first time in Amsterdam and chose this hotel from booking.com and it was fantastic . The basic nut clean rooms were perfect for what we needed and the staff were so helpful. As it was our first time in Amsterdam I wanted to feel safe and it definitely lived up to that . The neighbourhood is quiet so we had a good night sleep. One thing that really stood out to us was that they kept our cases safe whilst we went for an explore on our last day . Thank you so much to the staff at hotel hortus for making our first time in Amsterdam the best!

First time In Amsterdam

First, the announcement of the room was a little misleading. There were rooms with shared bathroom and apart there were rooms with shower - I never thought there was a bathroom!!! The bathroom was shared! Second, I've never seen mattresses and pillows so uncomfortable, you hundias, you moved all the time, for horrible couples and to colmo the pillow, although the doubles in 3 would still not be a pillow. We used the blanket as a pillow and when we ordered an extra one, they didn't have one!!! Then, when they cleaned everything, it was literally in the common areas - sheets, pillows, dirty towels, tooodo and obstructing the sub-yoda. Obviously seen, the passing of the ice cream and shower is the only possible location.
